Well that was a dud...

I messed up.

The goal: make a 16 oz. jarred candle: lilac fragrance with lilac coloring. No big deal.

I measured out 16 oz of wax plus a little extra… began melting it. I then grabbed an 8 oz. jar and prepped it. Note that I grabbed an “8 oz. jar” instead of a 16 oz. I don’t know how/why I messed that up. I just wasn’t thinking.

The wax melts, I added dye and fragrance, etc… Then I pour the wax into the jar. I was surprised i had so much wax left over, that’s when it hit me that I grabbed the wrong jar size. No big deal, I’ll simply make two 16 oz. lilac candles. So I prepped another jar and poured the rest of the wax into it… but somehow I only had enough to fill it halfway. Argh!

Later on, I noticed a sinkhole on the first lilac candle. Normally, I would top it off with left over wax - except I already poured all of that into the second jar! Argh!

So I decided to get creative, and veteran candle makers may cringe at this… I took a heat gun and melted the wax in the half-full jar and transferred that wax to the jar with the sink hole. Fixed! Oh wait, except now the jar is so full that 1) the wick holder got caught in it and 2) there’s not enough room to put the lid on the jar.

Behold this disaster:

Oops.

Oops.

Remnants of the half-full jar.

Oh well, I’m sure someone will take them!
