"The Charging Bull" - An Adventure for Rifts

I first ran this adventure at GenCon 2013, one of my first convention one-shots. Between the fun players I had at the table and the adventure’s execution, it was a positive experience. Everyone had a great time. I hope.

The original title of this adventure was “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Madhaven,” in reference to the 1963 comedy “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.” I have since changed the title because this adventure is not a comedy.

I wrote The Charging Bull as a one-shot adventure with hooks for future adventures. This module comes with pre-generated characters, but players may use their own characters if desired. If the players go with their own characters, it would be helpful if their alignments are selfish. Also, to get the most out of this adventure, one player could be a traitor. I explain this in more detail in the module.

I find it challenging to convert my one-shots to modules like this. For a convention or Saturday night one-shot, I make some notes, maybe draw a map, roll up some pre-gens, and off I go. Most of the adventure is in my head. Turning that into a usable module is a whole different task.

At first, I figured it would be quick-and-easy to turn my one-shots into modules. Just type it up, right? Nooooo. I need to create an outline, define the encounters, and provide some sort of logical progression and end-game. I can’t make the assumption that the reader knows what’s in my head.

That said, I hope this module is readable and provides you with a fun gaming night. As always, I am open to feedback and constructive criticism.

Enjoy!
