TotalCon 33 Experience

Overall, I’d say TotalCon was a success! My primary objective was to play test two events that I will be running at GenCon later this year. I had play tested these prior to TotalCon as well, so now they’re pretty well fleshed out.

It helps that I had great player at my table. At my first event (“Escape from Gramercy Island”) was on Friday night. No one at my table had any experience with Heroes Unlimited or the Palladium System. We made it work though. After the event, four of my players from the game canceled their Saturday night event and changed it to play in my Rifts adventure. That was really flattering!

Here are the events I ran at TotalCon:

A Simple Escort Mission

I renamed this Rifts adventure for GenCon since it’s evolved into something that is not an escort mission. I think I will call it “The Stones” or something to that effect.

The premise: a Rogue Scholar/Mystic named Oni has unearthed the location of some legendary pre-Rifts stones. These artifacts will provide those who posses them with the ability to create new worlds, control the gods, and have virtually unlimited power.

Oni is one of the PCs, joined by several other pre-generated PCs. Existing PCs can be used as well, but they should be around level 5, give or take. Part of the idea behind this adventure is to give folks new to Rifts a small taste of Rifts Earth. The pre-generated characters come from the core O.C.C.s in the Ultimate Edition book. As the players explore pre-Rifts ruins, they will encounter Xiticix as well as a Coalition scouting troupe.

The pre-generated characters include a Juicer, a Crazy, a Glitterboy, a Cyber-Knight, a Wilderness Scout, and a Dog Boy.

Their quest will take them to the small pre-Rifts town known as “Gena,” in north-central North America. From there, they will explore the town and find these legendary stones.

What exactly are these stones? There’s only one way to find out! No spoilers here!

Escape From Gramercy Island

The plot of this Heroes Unlimited adventure is simple: escape from the maximum security prison known as Gramercy Island.

The PCs play as a team of notorious super-villains who are attempting to escape a super max prison. They will encounter various obstacles in their escape, each one increasing in difficulty. The PCs will have to be clever, but also be ready to fight opponents head-on!

Just when they think they’re about to escape, there’s one last surprise waiting for them at the exit…

This one-shot was difficult to balance. A couple of the pre-generated villains were excessively powerful, while one of them was downright useless. This is why we play-test, right?

In Conclusion…

I’m looking forward to running these events at GenCon, a well as a third event that I’ve yet to design or play-test. I will be writing more about it on here!

I’ll also be posting PDF versions of my one-shots and campaign ideas on here as well. Stay tuned!
